Like many other South American countries Brazil really is a land of contrasts. Covering a huge area it has a massively diverse range of landscapes and wildlife and cultures to the point that the regions are almost like individual countries. Brazil offers a huge amount of choice to the visitor and you need plenty of time to explore all that this vibrant and beautiful country has to offer including its cities, colonial architecture, rainforests, unbelievable beaches and friendly people.
Where to go?
Rio de Janeiro – the famous capital city with its carnival in February, its great nightlife and beaches and famous landmarks like Sugar Loaf Mountain and the statue of Christ the redeemer. There are also lots of pretty towns along this stretch of coast including Buzios and Paraty.

Iguassu Falls – these amazing waterfalls stretch for over 3 kilometres with plenty of walkways and great viewpoints to marvel at this unique spectacle.

The Pantanal – these wetlands are to the west of the country and are a great place to go for wildlife viewing and exploring – one of the best areas on the continent.

Bahia – the north-east region is famous for its superb beaches and colonial history. Salvador de Bahia is a city with a strong African background.

Colonial Brazil – Ouro Preto, Paraty, Mariana etc are all beautiful former Portuguese colonial towns with lovely buildings, plazas and winding streets full of atmosphere and brightly coloured flowers.
When to go?
The north and west – this is the Amazon rainforest/equatorial region and has a hot and humid climate all year round.

The east coast – generally warm and sunny from April – October with a hot rainy season in November – March.

The south – this is slightly cooler and more temperate than the north with vineyards and farms. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit.
