Why Argentina?
Argentina
Argentina is a mysterious land full of contrasts and fired by passion. Home to a strong cultural heritage it has beautiful colonial cities, stunning scenery which is wildly diverse and intriguing people. The thrills are huge – from tangoing in Buenos Aires’ La Boca to riding out with the gaucho cowboys across the pampas, from the thundering spray of the Iguassu Falls to the awe-inspiring Perito Moreno Glacier, from the pretty hilltop villages of the Lake District to sumptuous wine estates of Cordoba – Argentina has it all.
Where to go?
Patagonia - right at the southern end of the continent is Patagonia. It used to be known as the “End of the World” for its wild and brutal landscape and the vicious seas around the Cape. It is actually a place of unfathomable beauty with jagged mountainous peaks and icy blue glaciers.
The Valdes Peninsula – the place to go for whale watching in Argentina especially Southern Whales.
Buenos Aires – or BA as it’s commonly known, is a fascinating and vibrant city. This is one of the most sophisticated cities in South America with a great range of museums. Galleries, shops and restaurants. The multi-coloured houses of La Boca are worth a visit and you must watch the tango being danced in its native home.
Iguassu – on the border with Brazil this is home to South America’s largest waterfall the Iguassu Falls. These waterfalls span an immense width of over 3 kilometres and have many fantastic viewpoints. No wonder it is a UNESCO world heritage site. The surrounding area is lush rainforest and is a huge contrast to the rest of Argentina with its more temperate landscapes.
Bariloche and the Lake District – during the winter months this is the ski region of Argentina (May – Oct) but during the summer (Dec – Mar) it is a very scenic Lake District perfect for touring around.
Cordoba and the wine estates – Argentina is famous for its wines and the Cordoba region is the main wine region. There are some lovely wine estates to visit and sample the produce. It would be rude not too!
